TCI Receives provisional Patent for Sky-Wave Suppressing 26 MHz high freguency (HF) Broadcast Antenna that is Digital Radio Modiale® (DRM) Capable
Fremont, CA – November 17, 2005
TCI International, Inc. (TCI), a Fremont, California based developer of High Frequency (HF) and Medium Frequency (AM radio band) products and systems, announced that two of its senior engineers, Mr. Gordon Sinclair and Dr. Po-shin Cheng, have received notice of a provisional U.S. Patent No. 60/701,511 being assigned for their invention of a skywave suppressing 26MHz broadcast antenna that is optimized for broadcasting high definition Digital Radio Mondiale® format programming. The Digital Radio Mondiale® Consortium, of which TCI is a founding member, has developed a world-recognized standard for digital modulation of short wave transmissions that produces signals of FM quality at a fraction of the cost.
JB Ballard, President of TCI said, "The availability of line of sight broadcasting in the 26 MHz band will enable broadcasters to have many more channels that they could use for local coverage." For example, New York City (the #1 market in the U.S.) has 27 FM radio stations. Local 26MHz broadcasting using DRM could increase availability of FM quality broadcasting spectrum by as much as 60%, potentially allowing another 16 stations to be established in this lucrative market.
