Availability of a Unique Dual-Polarized Direction Finding Antenna System
TCI’s Model 643 antenna system allows for highly accurate direction finding measurements on VHF/UHF signals of all polarizations
FREMONT, CA—July 22, 2008—TCI International, Inc., a leader in world-class
spectrum monitoring systems announced commercial availability of its new Model 643 dual polarized single-band
antenna system that receives and allows
direction finding (DF) on signals of all polarizations—horizontal, as well as vertical. TCI’s Model 643 antenna allows for high-speed, highly accurate wideband DF measurements on vertically and horizontally polarized signals over the entire 20 MHz to 3,000 MHz spectrum.
When packaged with TCI’s series 700 spectrum processors, the new patent-pending 643 antenna and processor represents the first
broadcast monitoring solution capable of making high-speed, highly accurate, dual polarized
wideband DF measurements over an extended frequency range. TCI’s 643 antenna is compact in size—just 1.3 meters in diameter and 0.7 meters in height, weighing only 47 kg, making it suitable for both fixed and mobile applications.
TCI’s Vice President of Advanced Development, Dr. Miso Tkalcevic, states “The Model 643 provides a unique set of capabilities for customers interested in signal intercept and location applications of
horizontally polarized signals in a client-server system architecture. While antenna solutions have traditionally provided monitoring results in both the horizontal and
vertical polarization environments, antenna aperture and algorithm constraints have previously made high-speed location measurements of horizontally polarized signals impractical. The Model 643 offers an exclusive solution to these problems and fills an important void in the spectrum monitoring and signal intercept markets.”
The 643 antenna interfaces with TCI’s Scorpio client software—providing access to status and control information and monitoring and direction finding measurements using intuitive screens and graphical displays in various languages. When run with the dual polarized 643 antenna, Scorpio produces either separate horizontal or vertical measurement results; When run in automatic mode, Scorpio aggregates the best results from both polarizations into a single composite result that is inherently more accurate than systems that only perform DF measurements on vertically polarized signals.
The Model 643 antenna is backwards-compatible with all previously supplied TCI V/UHF spectrum monitoring and measurement systems, and is now commercially available for shipment.
