SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Test and Repair Technician Lead (RMA), you will be responsible for evaluating and repairing customer returns of RF (Radio Frequency) system hardware and for leading and managing the day to day RMA (Return Material Authorization) test and repair operation which includes the debugging, testing and repairing of defective customer returns to our facility in Fremont, CA. Maintains expertise in testing and diagnosing issues to ensure (a) repaired product shipped back to customers meet internal and customer functional/quality requirements and (b) root cause of the repaired defect is identified and raised to operations and/or engineering. This position will adhere to the ISO 9000 quality standard. This is an 100% on-site role.
What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Manages customer returns through end-to-end RMA repair process. Ensure every repaired unit follows a strict process to ensure it meets performance and high quality requirements and that no process escapes occur.
- Evaluate customer returns of failed/faulty RF product by performing failure replication/debug on RF based systems using test RF testing equipment to determine cause of failure/fault.
- Document evaluation results, including any issues encountered and the actions/repairs taken to resolve them
- Repair failed/faulty units including identifying electro-mechanical or PCB components required for repair and replacing faulty components or create routing through assembly or outside suppliers to have unit or components repaired.
- Manage outside repair service centers. Work with outside component suppliers and Purchasing to support component and module repairs when applicable. Coordinate the communication and movement of material to these service centers and suppliers to ensure repair is done at high quality and on schedule.
- Perform self-inspection. Ensure the functionality and reliability of the internally and externally repaired systems and components to ensure they meet requirements
- Complete required process documentation including Agile RMA ticket, ticket updates,
- Estimate the labor and materials required for the scope of repair or upgrade of RMA product
- Write and update work instructions and other documents
- Work with cross functional teams, providing input to Root Cause Analysis Reports
- Summarize and communicate field quality issues to the management team
- Communicate concisely verbally and in writing to the management team. Will be required to present monthly and quarterly RMA test and repair metrics
- When bandwidth allows, provide supplemental support to the manufacturing organization by testing and troubleshooting production products deemed for shipment

Required Experience
- Minimum of five years of hands-on proven experience in testing and troubleshooting RF based equipment.
- Working knowledge and understanding of RF, DC, and electronics theory.
- Working knowledge and debug understanding in the configuration and networking of servers and compute products
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing test process and work instruction generation
- Understand manufacturing and test equipment concepts, technologies and techniques
- Ability to define problems, collet data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Detail oriented, reliable, self-motivated, and able to work under pressure with clear communication
- Flexibility working overtime
- A proven ability to filter and prioritize high priority tasks, and escalate to management where appropriate
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytic capabilities, data analysis and attention to details
- Experience working in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
- Experience working in LabView, Linux and configuration of Windows based computer products
- Minimal supervision required
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Prior experience in managing RMA returns
- Hands on with the ability and willingness to jump in at any time and inspect, test or perform any other task
- Working understanding of Labview, Linux & Microsoft Windows, IT networking.
- Must have knowledge Microsoft Office products, practical experience using Oracle and Agile a plus
- Deep understanding of test equipment such as signal generator, signal analyzer and network analyzer and ability to appropriately select, calibrate, and use equipment with proficiency
- Able to get to the root cause of problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to read, understand schematics and B.O.M.
- Ability to trouble shoot problems in electrical circuitry
- Ability to perform mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, and PCB soldering rework independently with no supervision required
- Familiar with the use of various hand tools (i.e. crimping tools, soldering iron, power screw/nut driver, hand drill, caliper, etc.)
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in the manufacture and testing of PCBAs and wire harness and cable construction, of any sort
- Experience at a company that performed testing of RF (Radio Frequency) or similar products
- Experience in using Oracle
- Experience in using Agile
- ISO 9001 experience
Education & Certifications
- AS Degree in Electrical, RF or other Engineering or related degrees

As required by law in this state, the quoted pay rate range for this position is $/32.00 – $49.00/hour and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect. We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus, subject to the rules governing the plan.
